English is just a language. Although speaking more languages is always good, I don't understand why people are so into learning English. Does the future anticipate every Chinese to be a translator? Or a few years later, every Chinese has two options of either working for a foreign company or doing business with a native English speaker? Any job, as long as it creates some values, all has to have to do with speaking English. Moreover, Should "we" learn English? As if I can only choose between "everybody should" and "everybody should not."--nobody opt out. In the end, we shall all realize that English does not produce or create a thing; it just helps communicate and that's all what it is for. Imagine if our country is strong enough that we don't rely anything on the foreigners, we don't have to say a word to them if we don't feel like. Therefore, in this sense, we can conclude that English might be of less importance than those science subjects.
English is the foundation of communication. We can’t deny that people in many countries know English, even regard it as the official language. Not only Communication can be more convenient but contact can be closer as well if one can master English proficiently. In foreign countries, knowing English can protect us from getting lost or being deceived. In our own country, knowing English could give the aid to foreigners, decrease their loneliness and express our friendliness. Frankly, English can build the bridge between us and others.English is the foundation of communication.
