基带信号(信息源,也称发终端)指发出的没有经过调制(进行频谱搬移和变换)的原始电信号,其特点是频率较低,信号频谱从零频附近开始,具有低通形式。
调制信号是由原始信息变换而来的低频信号。
调制本身是一个电信号变换的过程,是按A信号的特征然后去改变B信号的某些特征值(如振幅、频率、相位等),导致B信号的这个特征值发生有规律的变化,当然这个规律是由A信号本身的规律所决定的。由此,B信号就携带了A信号的相关信息,在某种场合下,可以把B信号上携带的A信号的信息释放出来,从而实现A信号的再生,这就是调制的作用。
我可以举个简单例子说明一下调制的作用,比方说声音无法传很远,那么用普通的声音去改变(调制)短波(高频电磁信号)信号的振幅,然后把这个短波信号发射向天空,天空中存在电离层,可以把短波信号反射下来,反射到美国,使用短波收音机把附着在短波信号上的声音信号释放(解调)出来,就可以收听了。
上述A信号就是调制信号,B信号是被调制信号,完成调制的B信号为已调信号。
有时候也会把已调信号笼统的说是调制信号(这就是为什么上面说可以有两种解释的原因),这里只是为了把它与A信号相区别,A信号通常可以成为基带信号,当然这是数字信号领域的叫法,模拟信号一般就是指调制信号源。
