英语神人！！ 请帮我看看 是个关于英语语法的问题啦！！！

大意为：要想忠实于人文主义，以及它所代表的一切，有必要对古代哲学思想有深刻的了解，并且..，呃，并且忠实于原著所表达的这种思想。
由于这是托福的听力稿，可能是听写出来的，我怀疑两处有问题？一是：how best 为how better 之误，因为后面有个than
二是没有这个问号。
要搜索一下才知道。
从结构上看，教授本来是想说：it was necessary to be knowledgeable about the ancient philosophies.... and how to express them better than .....的。
在讲到be knowledgeable about 时，突然想到，有比它更好的词：(to be ) faithful to
古代没有录音机，所以古代的哲学思想都是以文字的形式表现出来的。（as they were expressed in their writing)
吴晗华老师的“best than 用法相当于 more……than” 不知道出自哪本语法书说词典，以前没听说过，我只知道比较级的否定可以表示最高级，如：It can't be worse. I can't agree with you more.
这个语法现象，有待确认。如确有这种表达法，则我又学到了一点。要感谢楼主！
最后如果是个问号，则and 之后是一个特殊疑问句，从上下文看，好象没有疑问的意思。

看来这是口语中的一种表达，就相当于better .... than吧。
再翻译一下：
要想忠实于人文主义，以及它所代表的一切，有必要对古代哲学思想有深刻的了解，并且..，呃，并且忠实于原著所表达的这种思想，以及知道如何比原来的语言更好地表达这些思想。
